Japanese Daitokuji Bowls have a rich bell tone and very long sustain. They are excellent for inspiring the soul and healing your mind. The Japanese Daitokuji Bowl is made of heavy brown bronze, skillfully painted with a Japanese lacquer called Urushi. You strike the bowl's rim gently with a mallet and then enjoy its healing vibrations.

Daitokuji (大徳寺) is the name of well known Japanese temple.

It is a large walled temple complex in northern Kyoto. It is the head temple of the Rinzai sect's Daitokuji school of Japanese Zen Buddhism. It is one of the best places in Japan to see a wide variety of Zen gardens and to experience Zen culture and architecture.

They say that this style bell was first used in the famous Japanese temple of Daitokuji. But, in fact, there are many temples with the same name -Daitokuji - in different prefectures in Japan.

To tell the truth, we do not know that this name comes from that specific Daitokuji temple. But we do know that the name of this style bell is well-known by the Japanese people.

Excellent

My 5 inch Daitokuji Bowl was exactly what I wanted and expected from the description. A soft strike produces, indeed, a rich tone and very long sustain. It is the perfect aid to my Zen mediation practice. A beautiful and treasured item.
